Tank Shielding Changes Coming in 5.9.2

Hey folks,

One of the topics we have seen quite a bit of feedback about is the viability of tanks in PvP. There are a few reasons for this which we would still like to address down the line, but we have one change planned for 5.9.2 which we hope will help their survivability in PvP. This will also help incentivize tanks to wear tanking gear in PvP.
  • Critical hits are now affected by Shield / Absorb.
Currently, only regular hits from players can be impacted by shield procs. By including crits, this gives the potential for much more damage mitigation for tanks when being targeted by DPS classes. Here is a very basic example. Lets say a normal hit would do 1,000 damage and a critical hit would do 2,000 damage. You are a tank and when your shield procs, you reduce damage by 25%. Previously you could reduce the normal hit to 750 damage, but would always take the 2,000 from a crit. After 5.9.2 you can also reduce the critical hit damage down to 1,500. This allows shield and absorb to be a direct counter-stat to Crit Rating for DPS classes.

The only thing you will need to access PTS is that you have to be a subscriber. Then you just go download it. There will be detailed instructions and more info once we get to opening it up.

You betcha! In the next week or so we will be doing a live stream where we will show off the Stronghold. Also, it is our intention that 5.9.2 will be on PTS where you will be able to see it, play around in it, and help us test!

So, as far as we can tell, this is related to an update happening with the commerce site. We didn't realize that maintenance would impact SWTOR and hence the surprise. We're working with the team to figure things out.

This might take a while, but once we resolve it, we'll let you know.

As some others in the thread have highlighted, we tried to outline our schedule in the Summer Roadmap Keith put out, here. There aren't any updates planned for June. In the roadmap Keith highlighted the changes that are coming July through September, I have also made quite a few forum posts in the PvP forum highlighting specifics of what changes are coming in 5.9.2. We are making a lot of Warzone and matchmaking changes.

Soon we will start talking about PTS for 5.9.2. Hope that answers your question!

This is great advice. If still have a Cartel Coin issue and you've only posted in this thread, but did not send an email or create a ticket, we won't have enough information to resolve your issue.

I sincerely appreciate all the patience everyone has showed and communicated in their emails. The team is working hard to get them all addressed. We've made a ton of progress, so we should be done soon.

I wasn't trying to frustrate you, just wanted to make sure that I saw the request and helped get it handled.

My sincerest apologies to everyone this impacted. We did resolve most of the issues, but we're working through all the emails and I hope to have them all processed today.
